All Together Now Cowl
When I attempted to set my knitting goals for the year, a color work cowl was nowhere on my radar. I was thinking of, mostly, socks. But then, in the Love in Stitches membership, the group decided to focus on color work for a month and, with that decision, a pattern was chosen for a MAL. I didn’t pay much attention until I realized that I could use scraps for the pattern they chose, Jamie Lomax’s All Together Now Cowl. Then, I was sold!!
I love using scraps, I love colorwork, and I generally love making cowls (though I don’t wear them that often!).
The Yarn
I have stashed a few skeins of gray sock yarn. And I should stash more of it because it is so versatile! For the main color of this cowl, I knew immediately what I wanted to use: a skein of yarn I’d bought in Montana. I found a skein of Raven Ridge yarn at a little shop in Missoula and bought it on a whim; and I’m so glad I did! This yarn is super soft and squishy – perfect for a cowl!
(I don’t think Raven Ridge is dyeing yarn anymore, which really disappoints me. I’d buy much more of this base because it is lovely!)
For my contrast colors, I dug around and found some leftover skeins that included gray, purple, and bits of pink and neon yellow. And I found a perfect combination!
The Pattern
Lomax’s All Together Now Cowl pattern is a lot of fun and is so customizable. You can do any number of skeins, any number of pattern repeats… Or you can do a fade! I’m already wanting to knit another one!

I may keep this cowl or I may gift it at Christmas. I have enough yarn to make another one, exactly like this one, which is very tempting. Using up scraps is so addicting and rewarding!
The colors I chose worked really well together and I couldn’t be happier with how this cowl knitted up. My only complaint is with my own skill – some of the joins of colors are a bit loose…. I guess I’ll just have to knit another to perfect my skill!
