Arya Shawl

At the beginning of the year, I was really wanting to knit shawls.  I started a KAL (knit-a-long) with my knitting pal, but I wanted to use a skein of Plank and Stella yarn that I’d purchased on Black Friday.   And that led me to the Arya Shawl.

The Pattern

I’ve often looked at Ambah O’Brien’s shawls and have wanted to knit several of them.  When I saw that the Arya Shawl pattern was written for two weights – DK and Fingering (Zarya), I thought it would be a good option.  After making sure there were no dreaded short rows, I was ready to cast on.

Yarn + Knitting

When I bought this pretty skein of Fiber Seed DK yarn in Deep Cerulean, I was going to give it away to a FibreShare partner.  But the more I looked at it, the more I wanted to keep it. So I kept it. When I saw it paired with the skein of Plank and Stella’s Beach Bum Remix, I was sold.  The Plank and Stella is so eye catching….and the Fiber Seed is so soft…. I thought they would pair nicely together.

This shawl was my New Year’s Day cast on.  And I kept knitting on it for a few weeks until I started my KAL with my friend.  I then set it aside. But this is such an easy, fun knit. Watching the colors play together was great fun!

Details

Pattern:  Arya Shawl by Ambah O’Brien

Yarn (Solid): Fiber Seed Sprout DK

Colorway (Solid): Deep Cerulean

Yarn (Speckled): Plank and Stella DK

Yarn (Speckled): Beach Bum Remix

Needles: US 8 (5.0 mm)

Made for: me

Time to Completion: 2.5 months

This shawl only took me about a month to knit – but I finished another shawl in that time!  This was the perfect knitting for TV watching – easy, relaxing….

My only uncertainty with it comes with the size.  It’s too small to really be a shawl/wrap so it’s more like an oddly shaped scarf.  Maybe I didn’t stretch it enough in the blocking process, but I stretched it as much as possible.  Perhaps the fingering weight version (Zarya) is bigger.

Either way, I love the colors and the design.  I’m sure I’ll be able to wear it often!
