Big Sky Socks
When we went to Montana last year, I really enjoyed going to several local yarn stores and perusing their selections of Montana dyers. One such dyer that I came across was Big Sky Yarn Co.
I knew, at the time of purchase, that I would make socks with this yarn but I had no idea for whom they would be made.
The Yarn
When my mom saw this skein of yarn, she immediately asked that I make her socks out of it. I was only too happy to comply. My mom has always gravitated toward blue and, though it’s not my favorite color, I loved the bright pink/purple speckles scattered throughout the skein.
As I’ve always said, I love the yarn I buy so much that I don’t mind who I give the FO to, as long as I can play with it first (ahem – knit with it!).
The Pattern
When I began these socks, I really didn’t have the brain capacity to do anything other than a vanilla sock. And so I knit these using my favorite, basic pattern from Charlene Schurch.
Details
Pattern: Basic Top Down Socks with Heel Flap by Charlene Schurch
Yarn: Big Sky Yarn Co. Star Sock in Hoop Skirt
Needles: US 1 (2.25 mm)
Made for: my mom
Time to Completion: 1 month
These socks were a lot of fun to knit! The speckles made me so happy! You’ll notice that one sock is more speckled than the other… I don’t mind that so I hope my mom doesn’t either. The heel is my favorite Eye of Partridge heel.
Vanilla sock knitting is so therapeutic! And when you have a lovely yarn to knit socks with, it’s perfection. I hope I never tire of it….mainly because I have tons of sock yarn that needs to be knitted!
