FibreShare Opens!
Today is the big day! The winter edition of FibreShare opens today and I’m totally excited to do it again! I think it’s appropriate to have the sign-ups for this fiber exchange open when arguably the biggest fiber event in the United States, Rhinebeck, is taking place in New York. This is a good distraction – and consolation – for those of us who cannot attend Rhinebeck. Because, I don’t know about you, but I get tired of seeing all the Rhinebeck posts on social media; I’m totally jealous!
FibreShare
FibreShare is a program that pairs you with a partner (one to send to, another to receive from) with a similar fiber interest (knitting, spinning, weaving). You get to know your partner through social media (or email) and then send them a package based on their craft and what they like. The only rule is that you’re required to send 200 grams of fiber. That is super easy to do!
The best part of FibreShare is getting to know your partner – and to have someone to talk with about these crazy crafts we love so much! I can’t tell you how much fun it was talking about yarn, Andrea Mowry’s designs, and color combos with someone who understands!
Yarn Haul
I love shopping for yarn. But to tell someone what you like and have them buy a bunch of surprises is even better. Talk about happy mail!
For the last FibreShare, I told my partner how much I enjoyed independent dyers and she managed to find me a few skeins of yarn from new-to-me dyers. And one was from a dyer that I was wanting to try! So that was pretty neat!
Rhinebeck
As I mentioned earlier, Rhinebeck is going on now in New York. This is the biggest fiber festival in the U.S. and attracts all the big name knitting stars we knitters follow on social media. I don’t know much about it, except for what I read in Clara Parkes’ Knitlandia. I honestly think I’d be overwhelmed by such a huge festival! The DFW Fiber Fest is overwhelming as it is!
Conclusion
Don’t be sad about missing Rhinebeck! Sign up for FibreShare instead! You’ll spend less money and you’ll make two new friends!
