Hedgehog Fibres - The Indie Yarn Stasher

One of the first independent yarn dyers I heard of was Hedgehog Fibres. That was years ago. Now, you can find Hedgehog Fibres in most upscale yarn stores. But that doesn’t make it any less special.

Hedgehog is hand-dyed in Cork County, Ireland by Beata Jezek, who is originally from Slovakia. Her bright, speckled yarn took the knitting world by storm shortly after she started dying in 2008. The rest is history. Hedgehog is now talked about with the same frequency as Madelinetosh or Malabrigo…but each skein is a unique snapshot of Beata’s colorful genius.

Beata creates gloriously colorful colorways. She dyes with everything from fluorescent to dark and stormy colors. And despite all the colorways, she keeps coming up with more and more beauties! If I ever subscribe to a yarn club, it will be a Hedgehog club. Beata does not dye ugly colors!

With all the people selling Hedgehog now, it’s easy to find. The Hedgehog website is also super easy to use. They also keep much more stock on there than they used to and offer subscription clubs, where you are surprised by Beata’s one-of-a-kind colorways.

No matter where you get it, try to get your hands on some Hedgehog just to see the wonderful colors Beata creates. I still fall in love with this yarn every time I see it. Though I’ve bought a few skeins, I want more and more every time I see it! And you will, too, once you get your hands on some!
