My 7th Pair of Socks
I’m trying to make the moms in my life a pair of socks every year. This seemed a very reasonable goal, especially when I’m trying to make twelve projects in a year. And it helps to satisfy my never-ending obsession with sock knitting!
My Mom
At the very end of December, I realized, rather belatedly, that I needed to get started on my mom’s birthday socks – and they needed to be done by the end of January.
My mom loves socks. She wears them all the time, even to sleep. Personally, I can’t do this because I get way too hot. But not my mom! This makes her the perfect wearer of my hand knit socks!
Yarn
My mom loves blues and pinks. I wanted her to pick a yarn from my stash – since there’s so much sock yarn to choose from – but there was very little blue in there. I showed her the one blue option – from Hedgehog – and she liked it! This really helped me because I would finally get to knit with Hedgehog! Like so many other knitters, I love this yarn and drool over it every time I see it. Now, I’m going to knit with it! Yes!
Details
Pattern: Basic Top Down with Heel Flap by Charlene Schurch (Sensation Knitted Socks)
Yarn: Hedgehog Fibres Sock
Colorway: Kimono
Needles: US 1 (2.25mm)
Made for: my mom
Time to completion: 3.75 weeks
Someday, I’m going to have to try a new basic sock pattern. The problem is – it’s hard to change when you find something good, right?! So I knit my normal pattern from Charlene Schurch.
Because this yarn is so wonderfully variegated, I chose to knit vanilla socks. And I love watching the colors in this Kimono colorway knit up. My only complaint with the yarn was that it split very easily. This is not a huge deal but it means paying closer attention to your stitches.
Overall, this was a very fun knit! And afterward, I still wanted to knit more socks!
