Sheepish Christmas Socks

I’ve been talking about wanting to knit more Christmas socks for this year and I’ve already got one pair done – my Sheepish Christmas Socks!  While I’m not placing a number on this goal, I hope to get several more pairs knitted between now and late November….

But first, let’s talk about this pair!

The Yarn

In late December, I started buying more Christmas yarn so that I could make as many holiday socks as I wanted before December.  I wanted both conventional and unconventional Christmas colorways.

I happened upon this self-striping skein of yarn from Color Me Sheepish on Instagram and knew that it was perfect!  While brown isn’t my favorite color, it will work wonderfully with my brown shoes!   I paired this colorway with a red mini that I’d bought from Yarn by Millie on Etsy.

The Pattern

For self-striping yarn, I wanted to knit vanilla socks.  So I turned to my go-to pattern from Charlene Schurch’s Sensational Knitted Socks

Details

Pattern:  Basic Top Down Socks with Heel Flap by Charlene Schurch

Yarn:  Color Me Sheepish Everyday Sock in Woodland Christmas; Yarn by Millie red mini skein

Needles: US 1 (2.25 mm)

Made for: me

Time to Completion: 1 monthAs I still tweak my stitches to find my perfect fit sock, I’m learning to leave a few extra stitches on the needles after decreasing from the heel.  If not, the stitches are a little stretched on the top of my foot.  So, I’m leaving 2-4 extra stitches on the needle for about ½ inch after the heel.  We’ll see how that fits!

This yarn was a lot of fun to knit with!   It took some pulling of yarn and such to get the stripes to match but once that was done, I was off!  If you’re looking for some fun Christmas yarn, I definitely recommend this one!
