Slouch Hat
Hats are easy to forget about when thinking of knitting in Texas. We rarely need hats and, as a curly-haired person, I rarely wear them. But they’re so much fun to knit! And considering how much sock yarn I have in my stash, I was happy to find this Sockhead Slouch Hat pattern….perfect for using up the stash!
Fingering-Weight Hats
Obviously, it takes longer to knit a hat with fingering-weight yarn. And it was the first time I’d done this so it was a learning opportunity – in patience.
Indeed, this hat seemed to progress very slowly so I had to amuse myself with watching the gorgeous shades of purple come together.
Easy Knitting
One thing about it – knitting continuously in the round is great for TV/travel knitting! This hat was like knitting socks – but without the stress of the heel!
Details
Pattern: Sockhead Slouch Hat by Kelly McClure
Yarn: Dream in Color Jilly
Colorway: Eggplant
Needles: US2 (2.75 mm)
Made for: someone else
Time to completion: 3 weeks
This was the first time I’d used Dream in Color and I must say the Jilly base was not my favorite. The yarn split very easily and was a bit…fuzzy for my liking. However, I loved this colorway! Purple is the best!
The brim seemed to take forever…and then, once finished, it was a bit daunting thinking of how much more knitting there was to go! But I enjoyed this project and would consider knitting a fingering-weight hat again. I love using up my stash yarn and this is a great way to do it!
