Sun Valley Fibers
I first took note of Sun Valley Fibers at this year’s DFW Fiber Fest. Why? Because I touched the MCS base – merino, cashmere, silk – and fell in love. And then I met the owner, Jeanette, who was super nice and helpful. And then I noticed the rest of the booth, overflowing with brilliant colors of every shade. Talk about amazing!
Sun Valley is based on Wisconsin but is traveling quite a bit this year to different festivals, including Stitches West and Midwest.
Bases
Sun Valley offers a variety of bases to choose from. Though I was immediately struck by the luxuriousness of the fingering MCS, there are many other bases that are just as lovely.
In fingering weight, there’s a 100% wool option, Merino Fingering, as well as an 80/20 (wool/nylon) called High Twist 80/20, and a MCN (merino, cashmere, nylon) High Twist.
In DK weight, there’s a 100% BFL (Bluefaced Leicester). The Sun Valley lace is a MCN. The worsted options include both a MCN and a MCS, as well as a 100% merino. So many options!
Colorways
Jeanette offers a rainbow of colorways; there is, literally, every color you can think of. It’s wonderful and overwhelming, but in a good way! I keep wanting to order a purple but cannot choose which one I like more!
Availability
On the Sun Valley website, you can order any color in any base, as all are dyed to order. This is super convenient because you don’t to wait for something to become available…or sell out.
Ease of Shopping
The website is easy to use. There are several kits available as well as some other goodies, like project bags.
Shipping Costs
Right now, Jeanette is offering free shipping on her site for a lot of orders. I do not know if this is permanent or temporary.
Conclusion
Sun Valley is a wonderful independent dyer that I’m glad to have found – and touched! Jeanette’s booth was wonderful at DFW Fiber Fest and it was a pleasure meeting her.
I’m already debating another shawl combination with her yarns! Go to the site and look – you will not be disappointed.
