Uschitita
Sometimes it’s very hard to see a yarn in person. I heard of Uschitita long before I ever saw it in a yarn store. And no wonder: this yarn is dyed by Steffi in The Netherlands! Steffi has crafted the Uschitita brand to stand for deep, saturated colors that are either solid or variegated and speckled. This yarn is truly special and I was so thrilled to find it at a yarn store in Texas!
Bases
Uschitita is most often found on just a few bases, though Steffi lists many on Ravelry. Here’s a sampling….
Kidsilk Lace (Lace – 72% Mohair/28% Silk)
Merino Singles (Fingering – 100% Merino)
The Twist (Fingering – 80/20)
Squirrel Sock (Fingering – 75% Merino/15% Nylon/10% Stellina)
Merino Sock (Light Fingering – 75/25)
Availability
There is usually a good selection of yarn on the Uschitita website but there are many stockists in the United States, including one in Texas and The Loopy Ewe (in Colorado), which has a great online store.
Ease of Shopping
Steffi’s site is easy to use. And she even had an Advent calendar this year! I wish I’d known about that!
Shipping
If you order from Steffi, shipping will be expensive from The Netherlands. The more cost effective way to get ahold of her yarn would be to find one of the many stockists in the U.S. – or your own country.
Conclusion
Steffi is an extremely talented dyer and I wish I had more of her yarn. Be on the lookout for this yarn and follow Steffi on Instagram!
